My Preventative Botox Journey

About a month ago, I shared that I was getting some preventative Botox done. I've had so many positive responses from me sharing it in snippets on my Instagram that I decided to dive in a little bit deeper with a blog post.

I think that the subject of Botox is very controversial. A lot of people have mistaken celebrities that have had one too many face lifts with Botox. I think that most of you would be shocked by how many people in your life get Botox, they just don't talk about it.

I want to say this before we go any further. Nothing is wrong with having wrinkles or aging. Botox is absolutely not a necessity in your life.

WHAT IS BOTOX?

Botox is a neurotoxin that relaxes the muscles and ends up preventing wrinkles from getting deeper.

Another alternative to Botox is another neurotoxin called Dysport. I haven't used this before but Rebecca told me that it activates a little bit quicker but it doesn't last as long as Botox does. Do your research and be informed!

MYTHS ABOUT BOTOX

I feel like when people here Botox, they think of the women who have frozen faces and look like they got caught in a windstorm. So many people think that Botox is only for you once you are older. When in reality when you start when you are younger than you don't need as much when you are older. Remember that the deeper the wrinkle, the more Botox it is going to take to correct. It is going to take time and patience to completely smooth out the wrinkles. The wrinkles didn't happen over night and it won't be fixed overnight.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

It really depends on wherever you live. Here in Augusta, GA I have seen the price of Botox range from $9-$12 per unit. I have seen it go all the way up to $20 per unit but that is usually in larger cities.

WHEN SHOULD I START GETTING BOTOX?

This is a personal decision. I personally feel like mid-twenties is a great time to start. Like I have said before, the longer you wait to get Botox, the more Botox you are going to have to get. When you start younger you will end up having to get less the older that you get.

HOW LONG DOES BOTOX LAST?

Botox lasts depending on how fast your body metabolizes it. I've noticed that certain parts of my face metabolize faster than other parts. For example, I noticed that my forehead started "cracking" more than around my eye have. So I just got my forehead injected the last time that I went.

HOW MANY UNITS DO YOU GET?

When I went in for my first visit, I got about 25 units. A few weeks later, I came back in and had touch-ups done which she did about 5 more units totaling out at about 30 units.

WHERE DO YOU GET IT INJECTED ON YOUR FACE?

I got Botox all in my forehead, the outer part of my eyes (aka crowfeet), and my 11's (the muscles between your brows). Rebecca also does an eye lift with Botox which is the best thing I've ever witnessed!

DOES IT HURT?

NO! Which is shocking to me because ya girl loathes a damn needle. Since I was a tiny little thing, I would faint if you even talked about a needle to me. I've semi-grown out of this but still not the biggest fan. Rebecca applies a topical numbing cream wherever she is planning on injecting the Botox. The numbing cream helps a lot plus she uses a nifty vibrating tool whenever she injects so it distracts you from the needle going in.

DO YOU RECOMMEND IT?

I recommend you doing whatever makes you happy. Simple as that. If it is something that makes you feel better and more confident about yourself, DO IT.

I will end up doing Botox for the rest of my life. I'm obsessed with it and I love the effects that it gives! It has given me back a confidence that I have truly lost over the years.

HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT FILLERS?

Yes. I would love to get some filler for my smile lines. I know a lot of people who get lip fillers and absolutely love them! I've been really blessed with great lips so for now lip fillers are not gonna be for me but I am totally open to fillers!
